Partnership Agreement With Queens Park Rangers

I am delighted to announce that effective from 1 January 2011, to mark our 25 year anniversary, Sheen Lions has been offered, and signed, a partnership agreement with Queens Park Rangers. Whilst we will maintain our own constitution and name, Sheen Lions will have the stature of an association with one of the leading West London Clubs.

We are certainly hoping that QPR make the Premiership in the very near future, when current players will become household names. The heritage of QPR is also really important which dates back to 1882 with great names such as Stan Bowles, Gerry Francis, Terry Venables and Rodney Marsh to mention a few.

The partnership agreement has no financial consequences but will provide a series of benefits in kind to the coaches, players and club including:

  • Coaching workshop for our resident coaches.
  • Concessionary partnership matches for the club.
  • Boys to provide guard of honour on selected match days.
  • Opportunities for scouts to visit us.
  • End of season tournament at Loftus Road
  • Player appearance at key event.

Specific details will be issued in due course.

We also intend to evolve the kit to Navy Blue/ White hoops, in line with kit replacement requirements, in view of the iconic QPR identity.

From a QPR perspective, they are simply looking to develop their community presence and fan base in the Richmond, East Sheen, Barnes and Putney areas.

I have no doubt that this agreement will take the club into a new era and the association with a leading professional club just adds to the stature and professionalism that we constantly strive for.

Geoff Parmiter
Chairman - Sheen Lions FC

Chairman's Message

Sheen Lions FC continues to go from strength to strength. With 287 registered children this season, playing in 18 teams ranging from Under 8 to Under 18 we are, without doubt, one of the biggest and strongest infrastructures in Surrey.

Becoming a Charter Standard Club, last season, was a significant landmark in the history of the club and we are delighted with the recognition by the F.A. by the receiving of an award. Gaining Charity Status too, was another significant achievement.

Other achievements, more notably, have included five team managers successfuly completed their Level 1 FA coaching badges with more to follow. All our managers have attended the Safeguarding Children and Emergency Aid workshops, or are soon to. This shows our commitment to ensuring the safety and well being of our players.

I am pleased that both a second Under 8 and Under 9 team have recently entered the SYL. This ensures that we now support TWO age group sides in every year group up to Under 15, with one team each in the under 16 and Under 18 age groups. With all these age groups having their own dedicated coach and the bonus of specialised goal keeping training, we are undoubtedly providing the very best in youth football.

On the playing front, congratulations to the Under 11s, Under 14's, Under 15 Pride and Under 16's who have all reached the Semi Finals of their respective cups, with the second Under 15s still to play their Quarter Final game.

In the leagues, there are some notable successes, which are well beyond league position but the under 14 Pride and Under 9's are worth specifically highlighting, as they both sit within the top two of their respective divisions.

As we look forward, 2011 will prove to be a BIG year for the club as it marks Sheen Lions 25 year anniversary since the inception of the club in 1986. Please take the opportunity to read the club history on www.sheenlions.com which reflects amongst many things the fabulous Sheen Lions legacy that Sarah and Stephen Street have created over the years.

We plan to have a few additional activities to mark the 25 year anniversary and more details will be issued shortly on the website. We also have a very exciting partnership agreement in the following announcement.

Sheen Lions Girls Win The Molesey Plate

Sheen Lions Girls U9 put in some dazzling performances to win a trophy at their first ever tournament.

On Monday 31st May Bank Holiday the Lionesses won the plate competition at the Molesey Tournament, competing well against traditionally strong teams such as Croydon and Molesey themselves.

Girls football at Sheen Lions has developed over the last few seasons with training sessions led by qualified coaches on Sheen Common on Saturday mornings. The group now caters for girls aged 6 to 10 and embraces all standards of player.

In the 2010-2011 season, the Lionesses will be organised into an U10 squad for School years 4 and 5 and an U8 squad for School years 2 and 3. For more information contact Bob Ukiah (ukiah@sheenlions.com).

New Head of Mini Soccer

At the Club AGM on 15th June David Hughes was appointed to the Sheen Lions Committee to represent the mini soccer teams. David managed our U9 Pride team this season. He takes over from Mel Atkins as he and his team move on to 11-a-side football this year.

New Chairman For Sheen Lions

At the Club AGM on 15th June Philip Marshall stood down as Chairman. Geoff Parmiter was elected as the new Chairman of Sheen Lions.

Philip has has been involved with Sheen Lions for more than seven years and has two sons playing for the club. In the last two and a half years under Philip's chairmanship Sheen Lions has become a registered charity and achieved FA Charter Status. His legal expertise in particular has been of great help in these achievements. Philip will continue to help the club when needed and continues in his roles at the Surrey Youth League as the Child Welfare Officer and as the Disciplinary Secretary.

Our new Chairman Geoff Parmiter has been involved with Sheen Lions for more than ten years. He has three sons playing for the club and is the manager of our very successful current U13 side. Geoff has been on the Sheen Lions Committee for the last two and a half years with the brief of 'Director of Football' and has started several new initiatives to develop the club allowing even more children the chance to play competitive football.

Sportsmanship Award For Sheen Lions U12 Pride

The Surrey Youth League have announced that Sheen Lions Pride have been voted the Sportsmanship award for the U12 age group. The award was presented to our Secretary at the League AGM on 7th June. It is voted by each of the Surrey Youth League teams in each age group.

Congratulations to all the boys and our manager Rick, it is a wonderful accolade.

Sheen Lions U13 Win Wandgas Tournament

U13 Squads at Wandgas

Well done to the 16 boys who represented Sheen Lions U13 on Sunday 6th June. There was great spirit and a fantastic team dynamic. Once again we demonstrated the quality and depth of the squads.

Despite the fact the two Sheen Lions teams were in the same group we managed to eliminate the host team Wandgas, who have just reached the Premier Elite and get both teams into the semi final.

Unfortunately not quite the Sheen Lions v Sheen Lions final we strived for but this week we were able to win the cup with an excellent 3-0 victory in the final against Ruislip and continue our remarkable record of 13 finals in the last 14 five/six a-side competitions.

This made it three out of three finals for the U13 this summer and a second Cup, following success at Claygate and runners up at Molesey.

Presentation Evenings and Awards 2010

Once again, two very successful Presentation Evenings have been held at the Bank of England Sports club on successive Thursday evenings, with the older teams on 13th and the younger on 20th May. Some of you will remember when it was one event but in 2005 it was spread across two evenings because of the growth of the club.

We had a huge attendance at both, proving that we are indeed one of the biggest and well supported clubs in the League. A total of 292 trophies were presented to a lot of very happy players, and that's what it's all about. Happy boys playing the game they love.

All the boys received trophies and are winners, football is a team game, but as always we did give out awards to individuals in each squad.

Sheen Lions is very grateful to our coaches, most of them attend both evenings because they coach teams across the age range. The football would not be possible without the dedication and commitment of the Managers and other parents who put so much time in. You have all earned your Sheen Lions tee shirt this year!

Without exception every speech at the evenings acknowledged the contribution of our Club Secretary Sarah Street, she makes it all happen and everyone at the Club is very grateful for the huge amount of time that she gives to youth football.

Now we have to prepare for next season.

Another Trophy For Sheen Lions U13

Sheen Lions Under 13 continued their great 6- A- side success when they retained the Claygate 6- a- side Under 13 trophy. This becomes their 7th trophy in 2 years.

A fantastic 3-0 Quarter Final win over the unbeaten Harefield Utd’s was the performance of the day. The semi – Final went to penalties against Feltham Utd. and ALEX was the hero with 3 saves AND the deciding penalty. The final v Harefield Utd second side, who had just knocked out a strong Hampton and Richmond side was equally impressive and goals from Luke, Ashley and Scott gave us a 3-0 victory in the final.

WELL DONE TO THE SQUAD of Alex, Charlie, Joel, Luke, Ashley, Jake, Scott and Bertie but in particular ASHLEY who scored 7 goals throughout the tournament.

Trial For U15 Premier Elite 20010/11

UEFA B Coaching Certificate For Trevor

Trevor Hodge has been awarded his FA Level 3 (UEFA B) coaching certificate. Congratulations to Trevor from everyone at Sheen Lions on this achievement, it is a very high standard, there are less than 2,500 UEFA B coaches in England.

Trevor has been coaching at Sheen Lions for five seasons and is currently coaching our U9, U10, U13 Pride and U15 squads. He has coached many other Sheen Lions squads in previous seasons including our current U13 side and has coached at AFC Wimbledon. A tremendous commitment to youth football at all levels.

Double Header Rules 2009/10

This is based on the direction from the Surrey Youth League on double headers.

A Double Header is "two games of short duration" that are played back to back. A Fixtures Secretary may order a Double Header when necessary to complete the league program.

The minimum time should be played for both halves of each game (see Clause 10 H - page 69 of the handbook, and 23 (E) (i) page 75). So for example each half in an U13 or U14 double header will be 25 minutes each way. For U11 and U12 it will be 20 minutes each way.

A double header consists of four halves of football making two games. Both games are completely independent, they are two totally different games; they just happen to be played one after the other. Four halves must be played, one game (two halves) cannot count as two games.
  1. The second game can consist of a different set of players and cards should be checked for each game.
  2. Any substitutions, cautions and sending’s off during the first game, do not count in the second game.
  3. It is usual for the second game to be refereed by the same person, but it does not have to be.

For the purpose of results,
  • The home team are the HOME team for the first game
    • The home team phone in the result for the first game
    • The home team pays the referee for the first game
  • The visitors are the HOME team for the second game.
    • The visitors phone in the result for the second game
    • The visitors pay the referee for the second game
  • Each teams must complete a Prawn match report for each game.

Opportunity for boys currently in Year 8, secondary school for next season’s Sheen Lions Under 14 football sides.

Sheen Lions are a long established competitive youth football club based in East Sheen. We provide the very best coaching and competitive match play for over 220 boys from the ages of 7 to 17 years and in the current season we have 16 teams represented in the Surrey Youth League. Training for our current Under 13 sides takes place at the Bank of England, floodlit all weather facility every Friday between 7.00 pm and 8.00pm from mid Sept to the end of June, with match play on a Sundays.

The current under 13’s have been one our most successful age group teams with 32 registered boys across two sides, and 7 trophies won in the last 3 years.  Demand for both sides remains high and very competitive but we continue to promote an open policy of recruitment and as such will create a number of opportunities for boys to be part of the success. As such, I’m delighted to announce we will conduct the first of our open days on Friday 19th March 2010 at the Bank of England. Boys will participate in a series of 5/ 6 a-side game across 3 pitches. Open Day For New Players

Following the success last year of our inaugural Sheen Lions ‘Open Day’, we will repeat this year , with two sessions aimed at recruiting current YEAR 2 and YEAR 3 boys (and Managers) for next season’s – Under 8’s and Under 9’s.

Last year, we successfully managed to initiate two thriving Under 9 team’s and one developing Under 8 squad, which has been great.

Sheen Lions is an FA certified Charter Standard club. We currently run sixteen teams in the West Surrey Youth League from Under 8 to Under 18 with well over 200 boys registered and this year we plan to expand that to 18, with a second Under 9 group (next season’s age group) and potentially an Under 8 set up. Currently, the sixteen teams makes us the second biggest club in Surrey, in terms of number of teams.

As there are many siblings in the club and also friends of friends that might be interested , we would be grateful if you could pass the attached flyer on as you see appropriate to your own teams.

The first OPEN DAY is SATURDAY MARCH 20th at SHEEN COMMON from 12.15 to 1.30

The second OPEN DAY is SATURDAY APRIL 17th at SHEEN COMMON from 12.15 to 1.30

Please direct any interest to the Sheen Lions website www.sheenlions.com , where full details of recruitment on all age groups is posted.

Palewell Waterlogged 28th February

After the heavy constant overnight rain the Palewell pitches are waterlogged and probably unplayable. U14P and U13P games are postponed.

Sheen Common Closed 27-28th Feb

Regrettably the Sheen Common pitches are waterlogged and have been closed by LBRUT for this weekend so there can be no training on Saturday or matches on Sunday.

At this time Palewell has not been closed and so 11 a side home games are still on.

County Cup Quarter Finals

Congratulations to both the Under 13 and Under 18 teams that narrowly failed to reach the semi finals of the County Cup.

After a tough encounter the Under 18's went very close to making it 3-3 against Warlingham  in their quarter final but Warlingham sealed the match with the last kick of the game to secure a 4-2 victory. All the Sheen boys are Under 17 so they will have another crack at this cup next season.

The under 13's had another tough battle with Netherne Falcons but went down 4-1 with Bertie Lloyd scoring the consolation goal.

The History of Sheen Lions FC, Founded in 1986

Go to the new page named HISTORY on the website and read all about how Sheen Lions got started in 1986.

You will find out about the connection with Millwall FC during the early years and how our club was saved by the Streets more than ten years ago and developed into first class youth football club.

Sheen Lions March On To The Quarters Of The Surrery County Cup

Cup fever struck Sheen Lions as two teams progressed through the Quarter Finals of this prestigious competition.

The Under 18's had a good win against a strong Kew Association side winning 3-1 after extra time. Two goals by Major and one by Tyler were enough to see them through to the last 8 of the competition.

The Under 13's had another convincing win with a 7-0 victory away to Manorcroft Utd. A hat-trick by Peare and goals apiece by James, Marques, Lloyd and Haddad sealed a comfortable win.

The Under 14's were unlucky to lose narrowly 3-2 to Whyteleafe in the last 16.

We wish the two remaining sides luck on the 7th Feb 10 as they look to march on towards the County Cup Finals

Sheen Common and Palewell Closed 16th 17th January

LBRUT have again closed Sheen Common and Palewell for this weekend so there is no training on these facilities on Saturday or home games on Sunday.

The visiting teams have the option to host the match if they can arrange a pitch. If they cannot do this then remember to ring in the postponment to the results line and complete a match report.

All Surrey Youth League Games Cancelled 9th and 10th January

***** Update Friday 8/01/2010 the League have cancelled all games, there is no need to ring in results to the league.

LBRUT have as you would expect closed Palewell and Sheen Common for this weekend due to the weather so all training and games using these facilities are cancelled.

The visiting teams have to be offered the option to host the match. With the current weather conditions they are most unlikely to be able to do this so this is likely to be a formality.

Those due to play County Cup this Sunday should note that their game will take precedence over any fixture next Sunday 17th January. The Secretary will let Surrey County know the position.

Managers must please remember to return your match cards as postponed and ring in your result as postponed to avoid fines.

Fixture Congestion Impact

With so much bad weather this season, and the prospect of more to come, the league are concerned that some teams will have to play mid week fixtures or double headers in order to complete their league program by Sunday 9th May. Only 11 a side teams are of concern.

To avoid this the League have identified those teams that are most at risk and red flagged them. These teams are being asked to offer their fixtures secretary Saturday dates from mid January onwards when they can be available to play league matches.

These Sheen Lions teams have been red flagged:
  • Sheen Lions U12
  • Sheen Lions U14 Pride
The following are 'green' and so should have little concern: U11L, U13L, U14L, U18

The following are 'amber' so further disruption could result in a problem: U11P , U12P, U13P, U15L
